THB 500,000 (~USD 14,700) in bank account for 6+ months OR proof of equivalent assets
DTV requires THB 500K (~USD 14,700) savings only — no monthly income test. Each stay max 180 days, can re-enter within 5-year validity for unlimited 180-day stays.
Tax treatment
- Becomes tax resident: After 180 days in calendar year
- Special regime: DTV/LTR holders' foreign-source income exemption — but rules tightened Jan 2024
- Foreign income: DTV: foreign income remitted in same year now taxable (Revenue Code Section 41 amended Jan 2024). LTR Wealthy Pensioner/Wealthy Global Citizen: explicit foreign-income exemption preserved. DTV holders generally stay <180 days/yr to remain non-resident.
Thailand's foreign-remittance loophole closed January 2024 — major change. Foreign income remitted in same year now taxed. DTV nomads must structure carefully or stay under 180 days. LTR program (separate, USD 80K income or USD 1M assets) preserves foreign-income exemption.

- 2024-07-15
Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) launched — 5-year validity, 180-day stays.
- 2024-01-01
Thailand foreign-remittance tax rule changed: foreign income remitted in same tax year now taxable for residents. Major tax-planning change.
- 2022-09
LTR (Long-Term Resident) Visa launched — 10-year visa with foreign-income exemption (USD 80K income or USD 1M assets).
Notes
Thailand DTV = 5-year multi-entry + USD 14.7K savings only + 180-day stays + family eligible. Tax 'gotcha' on remittance changed Jan 2024 — manage carefully. For tax-favorable long-term: LTR Visa (USD 80K income, foreign-income exempt).
