- Monthly minimum (USD): $3K
- Monthly minimum (native): 3,000 EUR
6 months of bank statements + employment contract or freelance contracts
EUR 3,000/month for the 6 months preceding application. No family multiplier published — White Card explicitly DOES NOT permit family reunification.
Tax treatment
- Becomes tax resident: If habitual residence in Hungary OR 183+ days
- Flat-rate regime: 15%
- Special regime: None specific to White Card
- Foreign income: Hungary has 15% flat PIT (one of EU's lowest). If tax-resident, worldwide income taxed at 15%. Strong DTA network protects against double taxation.
Hungary's 15% flat PIT is structurally favorable for high earners even at full residency. White Card holders can elect to remain non-resident by limiting Hungary stays <183 days/yr.
Remote work requirements
- Must work for foreign employer: Yes
- Local clients allowed: No
- Local employment allowed: No
- Self-employed accepted: Yes
- Salaried vs freelance: both
Family inclusion
- Spouse: No
- Children under 18: No
- Dependent adult children: No
- Parents dependent: No
White Card EXPLICITLY DOES NOT allow family reunification — major drawback. Family members must apply separately under other categories (which limits options for spouses without independent eligibility).
Path to PR & citizenship

White Card explicitly does NOT count toward 3-year national PR or 5-year EU long-term resident status.

Recent changes
- 2022-01
White Card launched.
- 2024
OIF clarified that White Card explicitly does NOT permit family reunification — major friction point for US applicants with families.
- 2024-2025
Hungary tightening immigration generally (Guest Worker program restrictions, work-permit caps) but DNV remains accessible.
Notes
Hungary White Card has low income floor + EU/Schengen base + 15% flat PIT, but no family + no PR/citizenship path = strictly a 2-year EU base for single nomads. Budapest is one of the cheapest EU capitals; for cost-of-living vs Schengen access, Hungary is competitive.
