Income requirements

  • Monthly minimum (USD): $4K
  • Monthly minimum (native): 3,800 EUR

Last 3 months bank statements + employment contract OR client contracts + freelancer registration

EUR 3,500/mo net of tax. +20% for spouse (EUR 700), +15% per child (EUR 525). Some sources cite EUR 3,800/mo — latest Migration Ministry figure as of 2024-2025 is EUR 3,500.

Tax treatment

  • Becomes tax resident: After 183 days in Greece — but Greece has explicit DNV non-resident protection if stay <6 months (visa-only stage)
  • Special regime: Non-Dom regime (50% income exemption for 7 years for tax residents who relocate from abroad)
  • Foreign income: DNV (visa) holders staying <6 months/year are NOT tax-resident. Upon converting to residence permit + 183 days: tax-resident. Non-Dom regime: 50% of foreign employment/self-employment income tax-free for 7 years (Article 5C, Law 4172/2013). HNW alternative: EUR 100K/yr forfait for 15 years.

Greece has one of the most DNV-friendly tax frameworks: 50% income exemption for 7 years is the EU's best deal for moderate-to-high earners. Apply via tax authority (AADE) within Mar 31 of year following relocation.

Remote work requirements

  • Must work for foreign employer: Yes
  • Local clients allowed: No
  • Local employment allowed: No
  • Self-employed accepted: Yes
  • Salaried vs freelance: both

Family inclusion

  • Spouse: Yes
  • Children under 18: Yes
  • Dependent adult children: No
  • Parents dependent: No

Recent changes

  1. 2021-09

Greece DNV launched via Law 4825/2021.

  2. 2022-2024

Income threshold raised from EUR 3,500/mo (held steady through 2025).

  3. 2024-2025

Non-Dom 50% income exemption regime (7 years) increasingly marketed to DNV applicants — primary tax-side draw vs other EU DNVs.

Notes

Greece DNV combines moderate income floor + the best tax incentive in EU (50% off for 7 years) + reasonable path to PR/citizenship. Top recommendation for US remote workers who want EU base + meaningful tax savings.
