Tax treatment
- Becomes tax resident: After 183 days in Greece — but Greece has explicit DNV non-resident protection if stay <6 months (visa-only stage)
- Special regime: Non-Dom regime (50% income exemption for 7 years for tax residents who relocate from abroad)
- Foreign income: DNV (visa) holders staying <6 months/year are NOT tax-resident. Upon converting to residence permit + 183 days: tax-resident. Non-Dom regime: 50% of foreign employment/self-employment income tax-free for 7 years (Article 5C, Law 4172/2013). HNW alternative: EUR 100K/yr forfait for 15 years.
Greece has one of the most DNV-friendly tax frameworks: 50% income exemption for 7 years is the EU's best deal for moderate-to-high earners. Apply via tax authority (AADE) within Mar 31 of year following relocation.

- 2022-2024
Income threshold raised from EUR 3,500/mo (held steady through 2025).
- 2024-2025
Non-Dom 50% income exemption regime (7 years) increasingly marketed to DNV applicants — primary tax-side draw vs other EU DNVs.
Notes
Greece DNV combines moderate income floor + the best tax incentive in EU (50% off for 7 years) + reasonable path to PR/citizenship. Top recommendation for US remote workers who want EU base + meaningful tax savings.
