Sufficient funds for stay
No formal DNV exists. Home Office confirmed Jan 2024 that remote work for an overseas employer is permitted on Standard Visitor visa (6 months max, non-renewable, no PR). No income threshold for visitor. UK Tier 1 Investor closed Feb 2022.
Tax treatment
- Becomes tax resident: Under SRT (Statutory Residence Test) — 183 days, or specific ties tests. Visitor stays <183 days generally do not trigger residency.
- Special regime: Non-Dom regime ABOLISHED 6 April 2025 — replaced by 4-year FIG (Foreign Income and Gains) regime for new arrivals only
- Foreign income: FIG 2025+ regime: first 4 years UK residence, foreign income/gains exempt from UK tax (even if remitted). After 4 years: worldwide taxation. Old non-dom remittance basis grandfathered for existing claimants subject to transition rules.
UK Apr 2025 non-dom abolition is the biggest UK tax change in decades. New 4-year FIG regime favorable for short-term arrivals (e.g. consultants, executives). Visitor visa-holders typically remain non-resident anyway.

Notes
UK has NO formal DNV. 6-month Standard Visitor visa permits remote work for overseas employer (as of 2024) — useful for short stays but not a relocation pathway. UK's loss of non-dom (Apr 2025) further reduces UK's tax appeal vs EU competitors.
