Income requirements

  • Monthly minimum (native): 4,170 USD

USD 50,000/yr or expectation thereof; employer letter or business evidence

USD 50,000/yr income (~USD 4,170/mo). One of the first formal Caribbean nomad visas — 2020.

Tax treatment

  • Becomes tax resident: Welcome Stamp holders explicitly EXEMPT from Barbados PIT for the full 12-month stay
  • Special regime: Statutory exemption — Welcome Stamp holders deemed non-resident for tax purposes
  • Foreign income: Foreign income earned during Welcome Stamp is not taxable in Barbados. Welcome Stamp creates a special tax status.

Statutory non-resident treatment is the headline benefit. Barbados generally would tax residents at 12.5-28.5% PIT — Welcome Stamp bypasses this.

Remote work requirements

  • Must work for foreign employer: Yes
  • Local clients allowed: No
  • Local employment allowed: No
  • Self-employed accepted: Yes
  • Salaried vs freelance: both

Family inclusion

  • Spouse: Yes
  • Children under 18: Yes
  • Dependent adult children: No
  • Parents dependent: No

Family covered under family Welcome Stamp (USD 3,000 fee for family).

Path to PR & citizenship

Permanent residency

  • Available: No

Welcome Stamp does NOT count toward 5-year residency for PR. Separate Special Entry Permit (HNW) leads to indefinite stay.

Citizenship

  • Available: No

Naturalization requires 5+ years residence on residence permit (not Welcome Stamp).

Eligibility requirements

  • Non-Barbadian citizen
  • Remote employment or own business
  • USD 50K+/yr income
  • Clean criminal record
  • Valid passport (6+ months)

Disqualifiers

  • Barbadian employer/clients

Recent changes

  1. 2020-06

Barbados Welcome Stamp launched — first formal Caribbean DNV.

  2. 2024-2025

Programme stable; renewable. Barbados has lost some share to newer Caribbean nomad stamps with lower fees.

Notes

Barbados Welcome Stamp = statutory zero-tax status + family eligible + indefinite renewability + 1-year stays. Drawback: USD 2,000 fee (highest in Caribbean), USD 50K income. Mature programme, less competitive than newer Caribbean stamps.
