Luxembourg's government released quarterly population data on July 1, 2025 that contained a striking figure for the United States. Yet tiny Luxembourg, with about 640,000 residents, drew new American citizens at a far higher rate per capita over the same window, underscoring how disproportionately attractive its passport has become to Americans with eligible ancestry.

Years of Rapid Growth

The trend is not new. Luxembourg citizens in the US have grown several-fold since 2019, with one earlier spike in early 2023 reflecting a rush to file before a perceived deadline that was ultimately extended.
