# Archives and sources: Poland (PL)

Where records created in Poland are held, whether they can be found online, and the archives and providers EasyPassport has vetted for them. The list is keyed on the country where the record was created, usually the ancestor's birthplace, which is not always the country the user is applying to. ## Can these records be found online?

Yes. Records are name-searchable online or digitized, so a careful search is worth it.

The scans are at szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl (85.6M of them, free, no login) — NOT at archiwa.gov.pl, which is only the agency umbrella. Geneteka (geneteka.genealodzy.pl) is an excellent volunteer NAME INDEX covering 67M entries; use it to find the parish and year, then pull the scan. Since 2015 a certificate may be requested at ANY USC in Poland, and descendants (zstępni) are entitled by right — no legal-interest document needed.
